My dad played high school hockey in Utah in the 70s. I grew up on Golden Eagles stories and was in the building when the Utah Grizzlies won the IHL Turner Cup. I played roller hockey in the street as early as I can remember. I played hockey for Bountiful High just like my dad and brother. I played ACHA for BYU after an LDS mission to Canada. I started coaching hockey in college and have gotten 2 out of 3 kids hooked. My wife is on the board for our youth hockey association. So, I have always been a hockey fan. It's in my blood and my blood is on the ice.
How far did you travel from to attend the welcome party in Salt Lake City?
I'm in Woods Cross now, so not crazy far.
What is your favorite team name idea?
The team should be Utah Pioneers. DU is a national championship program. Utah is rich with pioneer traditions. Eagles if you have a problem with that. SLC would not like Pioneers.
What was your favorite part of the welcome party?
Honestly, I loved how grateful the players were for the youth hockey welcome ar the airport. I didn't take my kids out of school, but dang I should have.
Did you get a pre-season voucher?
Yup.
Any favorite player on the team so far?
Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley, everyone else is replaceable. Also, I hear Mitch Marner is available.
Anything else you would like to say to support the new team?
Youth Hockey and building rinks needs to be a focus, or this think dies pretty quick. Utahns have lots of kids and are cheap. Youth Hockey must be cheap, quick, and easy to get the kids in. Adult leagues are full too, but Wu Tang is for the babies.
